Call to Action: Advancing Agricultural Productivity Through Mechanisation.

Smallholder farmers remain the backbone of Uganda's and sub-Saharan Africa's food systems. Yet, many still depend on traditional cultivation methods—oxen-drawn ploughs and hand tools—that are time-consuming, labor-intensive, and restrict the scale of production. At Microvest (U) Ltd, we believe that true agricultural transformation starts with mechanisation. If we are to sustainably address food insecurity, raise farmer incomes, and unlock the sector's full potential, mechanisation must be at the core of our collective strategy.

The resilience of our farmers using oxen-driven ploughs is inspiring—but the contrast with modern, mechanised solutions is undeniable. The path forward is clear. We are calling on development agencies, private sector players, financial institutions, and agritech partners to join us in building a future of productive, prosperous, and empowered farming communities.
